Those serving in small churches face situations that larger churches cannot understand. I have seen time and time again people posting in various Facebook groups about situations they face and people often respond with “large church” answers to try to solve “small church” problems. This simply does not work.
This website was started because of a cry of those serving in small churches for support and encouragement.
This began from a post I, Bill Gunter, made on my personal Facebook page which read,
My heart truly goes out to the people serving in children’s ministry in small churches. The ones who feel alone. The ones truly doing their best to minister to a handful of children and feel like failures.
I often ask the “big name speakers” if they have any words of wisdom for the small church kidmin. The standard response, “they are my heroes” but they offer little true guidance because they truly cannot relate to pouring many hours into kidmin while working a 40+ hour “secular” job always feeling like they could do so much more with more time. Their vacations and personal time are used for kidmin events (like VBS, camp, conferences, etc) and so they have little down time while using personal funds to minister effectively because there is little or no budget.
May 2017 be a year when kidmin focuses on these small town leaders, encouraging and equipping them.
That post gained a lot of response and subsequent communication with others confirmed to me that there is a need to connect, support, and encourage those serving in small churches. As a result, I feel led to work to reach out to the small church to give them a voice and encouragement. This is a work in progress as I begin to meet with others and begin to plan what direction this should go and what it will look like as it grows.
The small church children’s ministry leaders are crying out for support, encouragement, and advice. My prayer is that this website becomes that resource.
