Don’t Walk Alone

Several decades ago before the internet became such a vast resource of information and knowledge, I served in a small and medium sized church. Looking at the people around me, I thought that I was unique, different than other people. I felt alone serving in children’s ministry. It was not until I began to make friendships online and attended my first children’s ministry event that I, and my wife, realized that there were hundred, maybe thousands, of people just like me. After attending our first “national” event, a children’s ministry expo, my wife told me that it was weird being in a room full of people just like you. To this day I am not sure if it was a compliment for me or if she had just insulted hundreds of others.

Over the years I have made many friendships with others serving in children’s ministry in churches of all sizes. Those friendships are key because it helps me to not walk alone as I serve the Lord. I can seek help, talk through things, and be held accountable.

God realized that it was not good for man to be alone. Man needed another person, in the flesh, to walk by their side. We also see this as Jesus sent his disciples out two by two into the towns and all throughout the Bible. We need the support and encouragement of one another.

I want to encourage you to surround yourself with people that will help you in your ministry. Iron sharpens iron. May your ministry be sharpened today.
